Biography

Son of Sir Thomas Reid, brother of Sir John Rae Reid (q.v.) and partner in Reid, Irving (q.v.).

  1. Born 17 October 1800 and baptised 1801 at St Botolphs; inherited an estate at Woodmansterne Surrey in 1824 from his father; married Sarah Isabella Holmes 1832; died 22/7/1855 at Brighton.

  2. In 1841 George Reid merchant aged 40 is shown living at Woodmansterne with his wife Sarah aged 20 [sic], son George aged 8 months and Elizabeth (18) and Emma Lempriere (15), in fact his nieces, and a large household; in 1851 he was described as gentleman, 'income derived on advances [?] on mortgage'.
