Ellis John Troughton was baptised in Llanberis, Caernarvonshire, 30/09/1784, son of Ellis Troughton Esq, and his wife Maria. He married Elizabeth/Eliza Williams, probably in Demerara c. 1807. They had six children, at least five born in Demerara: Ann Helen (1808-1848), Ellis John (1810-1861), Thomas Nurse (?1813-1885), Maria Browne (?1813-1859), Cordelia Barry (1815-1816), John Nichol (1816-1896). A further twelve likely children were baptised in London: Mary (1799-?1867); David Bristow (?1819-1860), Barry (1820, died young), George Lys (1822-1871), Mary Baker (1824-1888), Julia Catherine (c. 1825-1890), Charles J (c. 1827-1857), Hugh Williams (1827; last traced 1845, merchant navy), Donald Sween (?1831-1869), Matthew Henry (1834-1835), Caroline Patience (c. 1837-1934), Trevor Louisa bapt 1839-1898?).
Elliz Troughton, merchant, age 55, was living with his wife Mary age 40, four children and two servants on Clapham Common in 1841. He was living at Fowkes Buildings, Great Tower Street, Middlesex in 1851. At the same address in 1861. He died in 1864, effects under £5,000.
