1782 - 1847
Given as A.G. Calmer in the compensation records. Owner of Nieuw Hoop, of which he appears to have come into possession though his marriage to the widow of H. W. Nietsch, the previous owner of the estate and enslaved people. Born Amsterdam in 1782 and died there in 1847, but active in Berbice in the 1820s. His private life was notably complex, and his several wives or partners included Maria Gallez and Henrietta Cornelia Nietsch nee Meeuwissen (Berbice 1769 – Amsterdam 1823). The compensation for the Nieuw Hoop was paid to creditors, and the estate was later put up for auction in a judicial sale announced in 1845, when Calmer was described as late of Berbice but now of Amsterdam.
