Strathleven, formerly Levenside, in Dunbartonshire, an estate purchased in 1830 and subsequently developed and expanded by James Ewing, especially through the purchase of Dumbarton Muir in 1841. Despite the comment in the ODNB that 'In May 1836 Ewing purchased the estate of Levenside where built a new mansion, at a cost said to have exceeded £110,000, and improved the estate, which he renamed Strathleven', it appears that he purchased the estate with an extant mansion and made relatively small changes to the house itself.
