T71/1606: letter from Clayton & Co stating McDowal had died, his will was registered in Scotland, Quintin Kennedy was of Drummellan, banker, Rev. Stair McQuhae was Minister of St Enox, John Phillips was a writer in Edinburgh and his widow was Charles McDowall, all were trustees and executors.

Jamaican-born widow of a prominent slave-owner; resident in Britain following the death of her husband in 1818. Accused - and acquitted - of the cruel treatment of some enslaved people whom she brought to Britain with her.
