Perry plantation sold to David and George Hall for £17,664. The will of Alexander Hall proved in 1802 showed him leaving the Perry's estate to be sold by his residuary heirs and brothers David and George Hall, so that the Hughes-Queree note is puzzling.

David Hall sold Perry to Richard Parris Pile in 1804 for £20,500. Pile renamed the plantation, ‘Springfield’.

Indebtedness 1817-1837: ‘When Richard Parris Pile borrowed £5,571 from George Abel Deane in 1817 he secured the loan with a mortgage against the enslaved on the Springfield estate. In 1827 Deane sold the mortgage to William Coppin. When Coppin died the next year, Pile's widow and executrix, Charlotte, had to repay the outstanding principal of £2,857 to his estate. Charlotte Pile had kept up the interest payments since her husband's death in 1824 and had tried unsuccessfully for more than a year to sell Springfield. Although the net income of the estate had been estimated at £,1,400 in 1825, Charlotte Pile could not raise the money to repay the mortgage. To satisfy her creditor she remortgaged the estate to Richard Haynes for the amount of the debt. When the estate was sold in 1837, a loan of £1,428 remained among the outstanding debts, which then became the responsibility of the new owners. The compensation awarded for the Springfield slaves amounted to £3,907, and although Coppin's executors contested the claim, the indemnity went to the Pile family.’
