Founded in 1794 as a partnership of Ireland, Protheroe, Bengough, Haythorne and Wright. Taken over in 1834 by Northern and Central Bank of England, which two years later ceded the business to the National Provincial Bank. |

Born into slavery in Carriacou, Grenada, Malvina Wells became a lady's maid in Edinburgh and a trusted family friend to her employers.
