Lieutenant General William James D'Urban

Son of Benjamin D'Urban (1777-1849, Governor of Antigua in 1819, Lt-Governor of Demerara-Essequibo in 1824, the first Governor of British Guiana and Governor of Cape Colony 1834-1838), and husband of Mary Elizabeth Stewart D'Urban née Mitchell (q.v.).

1. Will of William James D'Urban, late of Newport in the parish Topsham, county of Devon, Lt-General in Her Majesty's Army and Colonel of the 107th Regiment of Foot who died at Newport 05/12/1873 was granted at Exeter 21/01/1874 to Mary Elizabeth Stewart D'Urban of Newport, widow the Relict, effects under £300.

2. His son, the botanist William Stewart Mitchell D’Urban, who later became the first Curator of the Royal Albert Memorial Museum in Exeter, married Gertrude, daughter of Henry Porter (q.v.) in Kenn, Devon, in 1867.
