Biography

Awarded the compensation for the enslaved people on the Penshurst estate in St Ann Jamaica as judgement creditor. Son of Robert Hawthorn of St Ann Jamaica (q.v.).

  1. In 1871 the Rev. Robert Hawthorn aged 79 born Jamaica Vicar of Stapleford was living at Stapleford with two unmarried daughters, Ann and Grace aged 48 and 47 both born Haddingtonshire. In 1861 he had been a visitor at the home of John F. Collins and Sarah his wife aged 49 born Jamaica at Betterton house, East Lockinge Berkshire. Sarah Collins nee Hawthorn was presumably related both to the Rev. Robert Hawthorn and also to the London merchant Robert Hawthorn (q.v.).

  3. Will of Rev Robert Hawthorn who died 14/03/1872 proved 31/07/1872, effects under £600. One of the executors was William Hawthorn of 5 Lime Street, the son of the London merchant Robert Hawthorn.
