Edward Delpratt

1773 - 1838

Claimant or beneficiary

Resident slave-owner in Jamaica, son of Samuel Delpratt, awarded the compensation for Brandon Hall and Edinburgh Castle as owner, and probably the awardee also of two smaller claims in Kingston.

  1. Edward Delpratt, male, christening St-Augustine-the-Less Bristol 17/02/1773, son of Samuel Delpratt and Martha. 1826 will of William Delpratt, of Bristol proved 05/09/1826: legacy to Edward Delpratt of Jamaica; and to Agnes Delpratt, widow 'of my late cousin Samuel Delpratt'. Will of Edward Delpratt of St David Surrey Island of Jamaica proved 10/11/1842 [he had died 23/12/1838]. Will of Samuel Delpratt Merchant of Kingston Jamaica proved 03/03/1784. This latter, of Bristol and Jamaica, Merchant of Foord and Delpratt, had married Martha Foord sometime between 1758 and 1775 (probably in 1760), and died at sea returning from Jamaica where he was owner of Mount Sinai and Coldstream. His grandson Joseph Delpratt had a grant of arms 17/12/1867.

  2. A provisional genealogy pieced together from fragments suggests: Generation IA Samuel (d. 1784) and IB. William (married 1750). Generation IIA Sons of Samuel = Edward (1773-1842, in fact 1838) and Samuel who married Agnes 1774-1850 and d. C. 1821); IIB Sons of William = William (d. 1826) and Joseph (1758-1836); Generation IIIA Son of Samuel = Joseph 1808-1884 (born Bath) and possibly IIIAA Son of Edward = Samuel (b. C. 1829).
