Biography

Resident clergyman, whose family returned to England after his death. Rector of St Thomas-in-the-Vale, Jamaica, from 18/09/1816 until his death 29/07/1847.

  1. Died at Spanish Town July 29 1847 for 32 years the rector of St Thomas-in-the-Vale; second son of Rev. W. Burton, formerly Rector of Faccombe cum Tangley Hants and afterwards of Falmouth Trelawney Jamaica [and of Harriet Burton (d. 1847)].

  2. Burton's widow Elizabeth R[odon] Burton appears aged 43 in the 1851 census as clegyman's widow and schoolmistress of Tiverton Devon, with nine children aged 7 to 23 all born Jamaica (7 born at Wookey).
