Biography

Rachel Gordon, daughter of Alexander Gordon and his wife Margaret, was born 11/09/1773 and baptised with her elder sister Margaret in St Anne, Jamaica, 15/10/1775. Her father had died by the time his youngest child John Syms Gordon was baptised in St Anne, 15/06/1784. Rachel married Alexander Hanslep (date unknown); he was buried in Trelawney, 09/01/1823. Rachel inherited enslaved people from her mother, who died in 1820; these enslaved people were registered to John Knox in the almanac of 1825 so she must have married Knox before the givings-in of the March Quarter 1824.
