Rev. Richard Wetherell

Awarded with his wife Sarah Maria (q.v.) a share in the compensation for the enslaved people on Virgin Valley in St James Jamaica.

1. Rev. Richard Wetherell of Pashley, co. Sussex, son of Rev. Nathan Wetherell (Master of University College Oxford and Vice-Chancellor of the University), Rector of Notgrove, vicar of Westbury-on-Severn, and a magistrate for Co. Gloucester, born 1773, married (1) Caroline, who died 1833 only surviving child of Thomas May of Pashley Sussex and (2) Sarah, daughter of J. Gray Esq and widow of Capt. Duff. Rev Richard Wetherell died 22/01/1858, leaving issue by his first wife, Richard of Frant Sussex; Thomas; Nathan; Charles; Henry; William; Robert Alexander; Edward; Mary; Elizabeth; Caroline; Frances Ricarda; Eleanora; Charlotte.      

2. Matriculated University College Oxford 1791, BA 1795, MA 1798.

3. Will of Richard Wetherell late of Hawkhurst Kent who died 22/01/1858 (in London) proved 30/03/1858,effects £4000 resworn July 1861 at £9000.

T71/873 St James no. 172, which gives him as Rev. R. Wetherell and his wife as 'Maria.'
