Biography

Clerk of the Bank of England and descendant of a family of office-holders in Jamaica, awardee for nine enslaved people at the time of compensation.

  1. The will of Cheney Hamilton of [the Bank of England of] No. 3 Surrey Place Old Kent Road [made in 1821] was proved 15/09/1836. In the will he identified his father as Cheney Hamilton of Jamaica, and left the interest on the amount left to him by his father to his wife Harriet and then the principal among their daughters. He described the father's will as ambiguous. In a codicil [also of 1821] he said that his father had left him either £3000 or £100.
