Biography

Probably Eliza Eleanor Gibbs. In the 1817 slave register for Middlesex estate in Hanover, owned by Cuthbert Potts: "Sambo", age 22, Creole, daughter of Lucy Gibbs. In the same register were two of Lucy Gibbs's other children: Pechey Gibbs, "Sambo", age 24, Creole; and Frances Donaldson, "mulatto", age 34, Creole.

Lucy Gibbs, age 52, and two of her grand-daughters (the children of Frances Donaldson) Elizabeth Innes, age 15 and Maria Sinclair, age 12, had been manumitted by the time of the slave register in 1820.

Frances Donaldson had at least one child with Cuthbert Potts and was later bequeathed his estate, Mount Pleasant, as owner for life.

Eliza Eleanor Gibbs and her sister Pechy Gibbs were bequeathed £50 each in the will of Cuthbert Potts (written in 1826 and proved in 1827).

No manumission record for Eliza Eleanor Gibbs has been found.
