Biography

Alexander Simpson (q.v.) claimed as representative of the estate of Joseph Ward the compensation for Plantation Industry in British Guiana. Joseph Ward appears to have been the man who died in Lark Lane near Liverpool in 1832, but no will or probate record has yet been traced.

  1. Two children of Joseph Ward and Elizabeth nee Hughes of Toxteth Liverpool were baptised at St Michael in the Hamlet Aigburth, Liverpool: Joseph, born 08/03/1820, baptised 25/03/1820; and Caroline, born 25/02/1822 baptised 22/05/1822. In the first record, Joseph is described as 'merchant'; in the second as 'Planter in the colony of Demerara.'

  2. In a notice dated 29/08/1835 in Demerary and Essequibo, Plantation Industry 'the property of the estate (Boedel) of the late Joseph Ward', was put up for sale at the instigation of J.H. Albouy & Co.

  3. Deaths of (1) 17/01/1877 Elizabeth Ward at the residence of her daughter Mrs Bright Oakfield Terrrace, Gateacre, near Liverpool aged 66 [sic: in the 1871 census she was shown more correctly as 79] widow of the late Joseph Ward 'of Liverpool and Demerara'; and (2) 09/03/1879 Joseph Ward at Montrose Sydney NSW aged 59 , the son of the late Joseph Ward 'of Liverpool and Demerara.'
