Sir Michael Shaw Stewart 5th Bart.

1766 - 1825

Biography

Sir Michael Shaw Stewart 5th bart., son of Houston Stewart-Nicholson (d. 1812), grandson of Sir Michael Stewart 3rd bart., nephew of Sir John Stewart 4th bart. and Archibald Stewart (q.v.), and father of Michael Shaw, Houston Stewart and Patrick Maxwell Stewart (each of whom q.v.). Settled the Roxburgh estate in Tobago on Houston Stewart (who was awarded the compensation for the enslaved on the estate). The Sir M.Stewart shown as the owner of Roxburgh in 1832 might have been intended as 'heirs of' or 'estate of' the 5th bart, but otherwise was presumably the 5th bart's eldest son, Sir Michael Shaw Stewart, 6th bart. (1788-1836), MP for Lanarkshire 1827-1830 and Renfrewshire 1830-1836.
