John Hamilton of Cliffe Rectory was one of the mortgagees awarded compensation for one moiety of the Whim estate in Tobago belonging to the Rev. James Hamilton, his uncle.
In 1832, the Rev. John Hamilton was appointed curate of Cliffe at Hoo. He is shown in the Clergy of the Church of England Database as BA Brasenose. The entry in Oxford University Alumni shows John Hamilton of Brasenose as the first son of John Hamilton of Weyhill, and from 1839 vicar of Lynsted [sic] Kent. The National Probate Calendar for John Hamilton the father (d. 1859, leaving £45,000) shows him as of Kempshot Park and one of his executors as his son Rev. John Hamilton of Lynstead.
Rev. John Hamilton left personal estate of £46,340 6s 11d (resworn from £48,838 6s 11d) on his death in 1891.
