Robert Edie

???? - 1825

Biography

Absentee slave-owner in Jamaica, owner of the Esher estate between 1817 and 1825, shown as of London in the 1823 registration while the 1826 registration was by the attorney for the assignees of Robert Edie and the 1829 registration was by the attorney for the assignees of Robert Edie deceased. These details indicate that Robert Edie was the merchant of London of Broad Street, partner in Edie, Laird and Edie, whom the London Gazette shows as bankrupt in 1824 and as dead by 1828, when his estate in the island of Jamaica was subject to a purchase offer. He was probably the man buried at St Mary Hampton 27/06/1825.
