Thomas Ashmeade II

1765 - 1840

Claimant or beneficiary

Biography

Apparently resident slave-owner in Jamaica, and probably the son of Ann Ashmeade nee Ewbank and Thomas Ashmeade I. This family's history has not been fully analysed by LBS. A genealogical site shows Thomas Ashmeade I (1771-1829) and Thomas Ashmeade II (1794-1839), but the Thomas Ashmeade in the compensation process appears to have had grandchildren, possible but improbable for the younger man, and a Thomas Ashmeade was shown by The Times as dying in his 76th year in Jamaica c. 1840: the death-notice (below) does not correspond to information on genealogical sites, unless the age is a misprint for '46th'. The will of Thomas Ashmeade surgeon of Bristol proved 24/11/1840 (PROB 11/1937/87), in which he left everything to his daughter Martha Williams Ashmeade, appears unconnected.

  1. At his residence ----derton, St Ann's Jamaica, Thomas Ashmeade, Esq. in the 76th year of his age.
