Biography

Son of John Elmslie sen. and husband of Eliza Elmslie (q.v.).

  1. Will of John Elmslie of New Windsor Berkshire proved 14/08/1829. Under the will he left his wife Eliza an annuity of £700 p.a. secured on his 1/5th share [and on the enslaved people attached to them] of Grays Inn, Serge Island and Alexandria (St David), to which he was entitled under the will of his father, and all that coffee estate commonly called Island Head, to which he was entitled under the will of his munificent friend Archibald Graham.

Sources

He was probably the John Gray Elmslie baptised in London in 1777, son of John and Jane Elmslie (Ancestry.com, London, England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 record for John Gray Elmslie), but this might have been an older sibling who died young, before the birth of John Elmslie jun.

  1. PROB 11/1759/270.
