James Edgar

Slave-owner in Jamaica, owner of the Osborne estate in St George, dying in Scotland c. 1810: his widow Eliza was awarded part of the compensation for the enslaved people on the estate.

1. Son of Alexander Edgar of Auchingrammont (1698-1777) and his wife Margaret nee Edgar. Married 25/03/1789, Eliza Lorington. Died 13/10/1810.

2. Will of James Edgar of St George County of Surrey Jamaica [made in 1810] 05/05/1838. He said that under an indenture of 1794 he had settled the Osborne estate to secure an annuity of £300 p.a. for his wife Elizabeth Edgar, to rise to £500 p.a. when his debts were less than £10,000. In a codicil made at Auchingramont later in 1810 he appointed Allan James Bogle, Robert Bogle and Elizabeth Edgar tutors to his children.
