Biography

Owner of Bog Estate and Shotover Pen in Portland, Jamaica. Father of Edmund Bryan (q.v.). Died in England in 1832.

  1. Will of William Bryan of [the parishes of St Thomas-in-the-East and Portland but now residing at] Worthing Sussex [without any fixed abode] proved 09/05/1832. Under the will he confirmed his marriage settlement with Arabella Wilkinson Cosens under which she was to receive an annuity of £1000 currency (equivalent to £714 5s sterling): he also left her £1000. He left £6000 in 31/2% consols to George Bryan, his acknowledged son by Rebecca Grinder of Shripney Sussex born 14/09/1828 with the interest to support George Bryan in his choice of profession; Rebecca Grinder was to have the interest on further £2000 consols for life. He left £5000 to his daughter Caroline Oakes and his estate of Bog and Shotover Pen to his son Edmund.
