Biography

Early purchaser of land in Dominica (St Andrew Lots nos. 103 - of 270 acres - and 105 - of 280 acres - the latter with James Walker; by 1777 he also owned two lots of land totalling 438 acres with W.A. Senior in St David and some smaller leased lots in his own name). In his will he charged monetary legacies on his Dominican estates.

  1. Will of Robert George Bruce Captain in HM Corps of Engineers [and at present in the island] of Dominica [made 11/02/1778] proved 05/07/1779. He left his mother an annuity of £60 p.a. secured on his estate of Bunzion [in Fifeshire]; the estate itself he left to his brother Frederick Rudolph Bruce. His residual heir to his property in Barbados [sic] and Britain was his nephew Peter Henry Balcanquall.
