Biography

The Henry Strudwicke shown as owner of the estate Pantre Pant 1758-1760 and subsequently as previous owner was the Henry Strudwicke whose will leaving unspecified property in Jamaica was made in 1760 and proved in London in 1772. Pantre Pant was in receivership or in the hands of the mortgagee during Strudwicke's life.

  1. Henry Strudwick was listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 105 acres of land in St George, 1002 acres in St Mary and 841 acres in St James, total 1948 acres.

  2. Will of Henry Strudwicke of St Catherine Jamaica made in 1760 proved 02/12/1772. He left real estate in England to his wife and daughter. He left his property in Jamaica in trust to secure an annuity of £120 currency p.a. to Sarah Walter Bolt a 'free mulatta', the mother of his two reputed children Edward Strudwicke and Theodosia Strudwicke, £20 currency p.a. to Sarah Walter Bolt's mother, and £100 p.a. currency to each of his natural children. His wife and daughter were his residuary legatees.

  3. John Tharp IV in 1789 negotiated in England with Henry Strudwick's daughter, by then married to the Rev. George Warrington, and paid the couple £3000 to relinquish their claim on Pantre Pant.
