Alexander Cunninghame 9th of Craigends

1690 - 1742


Biography

Eldest son of William Cunninghame, 8th of Craigends, and his second wife Christian, daughter of Sir John Colquhoun of Luss. Married Anne, daughter of Sir John Houstoun. They had five children: William (later 10th of Craigends), Christian, Margaret, Lilias and Joanna. His second wife was Katherine, daughter of Sir John Campbell of Houston. They had no children. Katherine was an heiress of her brother Sir James Campbell of Grandvale (d. 1731) and through this marriage William inherited a share in Grandvale estate in Jamaica.

Whig MP for Renfrewshire, 1734-1742.
