John Petty Muspratt

Biography

London merchant and insurance broker, director of the East India Co. In correspondence with the Compensation Commissioners (where he appears as J. Petty Muspratt) he asserted a mortgage over the enslaved people on two estates in Jamaica (Prospect Hall, St Ann no. 4 and Hall's Delight Port Royal no. 8) without apparently submitting a formal counterclaim: both these estates were registered to Joseph Jackson.

  1. John Petty Muspratt was the former partner of John Jackson MP for Dover 1806-1820, born in Jamaica but himself an East India Co. director 1807-1820. The will of Sir John Jackson of Arsley Bedfordshire proved 30/08/1820 shows John Petty Muspratt as his partner and Joseph Jackson of Kingston as his brother.
