Dr John Paterson

Biography

Guardian of Rebecca Findlater after the death of her father Alexander Findlater (q.v.) in 1778. Possibly the same man as the Dr John Pat[t]erson who was the father of John Patterson of Baulk estate in Hanover, Jamaica.

  1. Doctor John Paterson and Deborah McKenzie, both of Hanover parish, were married there, 28/04/1776.

  2. Deborah was a daughter of Richard Mackenzie [sic] of London who was lost, swept overboard, when the Queen Charlotte (of which he was captain) was caught in a storm off Dungeness en route for Jamaica, 1763.

  3. Paterson is styled “practitioner of physick” in the will of John Dickson of Hanover (dated 1776, proved 1783) in which he was named an executor.

  4. Dr John Paterson died 15/04/1789 and was buried 16/04/1789 in Hanover, “universally regretted”.
