Biography

London merchant, absentee slave-owner on Berbice, son of Judith Philip and Edmund Thornton (both of whom q.v.).

  1. Will of Louis Edmund Thornton of Norton Street Middlesex proved 27/09/1830. In the will he left his real and personal property in trust (one of his trustees was Crawford Davison Kerr, q.v.) to fund his monetary legacies, which included £1500 between his thee sisters. He instructed that drinking cups be given to 'the sons of my father' i.e. 'William Wheeler [sic] Butler Edmund Thornton and William Thomas Thornton'. He left an annuity of £300 p.a. to his wife Elizabeth Charlotte (also given as Charlotte Elizabeth), together with a lump-sum of £1000.
