Biography

Slave-owner in Jamaica, husband of Selina Chambers, assigning his Williamsfield estate sometime before 1808. He died between 1808 and 1813.

  1. Will of William Innes of [Williamsfield St Thomas in the East but now residing in] Great Britain [made in 1808] proved 13/01/1813. In the will he described the transaction by which he had assigned Williamsfield [and the enslaved people on it] to James MacVicar Afflick or Affleck senior and Daniel Patrick Maloney in exchange for payments of £400 p.a. to him with the residue going to pay off Innes' debts to Willis and Waterhouse merchants of London. After £4000 of such debts had been paid down, the annuity was to rise to £500 p.a. He identified his daughters as Lavinia Innes and as Selina wife of Zachary Hume Edwards (q.v.).

  2. The James MacVicar Afflick mentioned in his will was his cousin, the son of William Innes's sister Margaret. He was buried in Southampton, England, in 1802. "James MacVicar Affleck of Edinghame, a surgeon on the island of Jamaica, quartered his arms with those of MacVicar in Dec 1777."
