Biography

Widow of Robert Eldridge or Elbridge (deceased by 1727). Inherited a half share in Spring estate in St Andrew from her husband as tenant-for-life. Mary was managing the estate in the early 1740s and deceased by 1745.

Mary Elbridge was listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 120 acres of land in St David and 100 acres of land in St Thomas-in-the-East, total 220 acres.

Mary Elbridge of Kingston, widow. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1745. Slave-ownership at probate: 102 of whom 46 were listed as male and 56 as female. 36 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £3108.93 Jamaican currency of which £2875 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £28.83 currency cash, £500 currency debts and £40 currency plate.
