Samuel Whalley Linwood

Samuel Whally [sic] Linwood patented 300 acres of land in St George Jamaica in 1789 and together with William Linwood a further 300 acres of land there. It is not clear whether this was developed by the two men. Genealogical material suggests that Samuel Whalley Linwood (who appears in the Jamaica Almanacs in 1796 and 1799 in the militia records as Samuel Wh. Linwood and S.W. Linwood, the latter as Captain of the 4th Regiment 'Quadroons) died c. 1800 and was the brother of William Linwood, a London merchant. The will of Hannah Linwood of Leicester proved in 1805 of St Margaret Leicester shows her deceased son as Samuel and her other sons as Matthew and William; Samuel Whalley Linwood was baptised at St Martin Birmingham 26/11/1756.
