Biography

Absentee Jamaican slave-owner. Son of William Tharp of Green Pond, and brother of John Tharp VII, Benjamin Haughton Tharp and Thomas Reid Tharp.

  1. Will of William Tharp of Heavitree Devon [made in 1828] proved 16/12/1829. In the will he left his household items to his wife Mary Harrison Tharp with the comment that he made no further provision as on his death she would be entitled to one-third of 'my estate in Jamaica' for life. He left his real and personal estate in Jamaica in trust with his wife and three brothers as trustees for the benefit of his eight children.
