William Arnold of Grenada

Biography

Merchant and slave-factor of Grenada, dying in London in 1807. He had been in partnership with James Bruce of St Vincent.

  1. Will of William Arnold Member of HM Council of [Grenada but residing at] Woburn Place, Russell Square proved 27/06/1807. The will has not been fully analysed by LBS, but made elaborate provision including annuities and lumps sums for two natural children of William Arnold - Annette Victoire and William James Arnold - and for his housekeeper Cite [?] Blondel. In the will Arnold commented that the had scarcely any real estate; he did leave 'my half of the negro man named Boggie now in his possession to his former partner James Bruce of St Vincent. One of his many legacies was of the portrait of his father by 'Zoffain'.

William Arnold's death-date was given as 08/04/1807 in an advertisement for creditors in the London Gazette 16498 22 June 1811 p. 1161 arising from two Chancery suits of Richardson v Preston and Arnold v Preston; London Chronicle for 1800 May 1-3 p. 423 showed the dissolution of the partnership between William Arnold and James Bruce.
