Biography

Son of Nathaniel Herring of London (d. 1678) and his wife Elizabeth, daughter of Caleb Cockroft of London. Married Anne (surname unknown, she later married Richard Scott). Member of Assembly for St Elizabeth in 1686. Great-uncle of Captain Julines Hering and Mary Witter nee Hering (both q.v.). His son died in 1716; the property of father and son devolved to daughter/sister Bathshua Herring, who married Peter Beckford (1673-1735).

Julines Herring of St Elizabeth, Esquire. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1690. Slave-ownership at probate: 46 of whom 25 were listed as male and 21 as female. 12 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £1274.5 Jamaican currency of which £716 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £21.41 currency cash, £0 currency debts and £0 currency plate.
