Biography

  1. Will of Leeson Blackwood [late of the island of Jamaica but a present residing at] Clifton Gloucestershire [made in 1779] proved 20/01/1780. His executors included Beeston Long senior and junior and Robert Cooper Lee (each of whom q.v.). He left £25 each to his half-brothers and sisters for mourning, and £1000 to his niece Joyce Banks daughter of Stewart and Margaret Banks provided she married with the approbation of Sir John Blackwood and Arthur Johnston of Co. Down. His residuary heir was his nephew Leeson Blackwood (q.v., under Capt. Leeson Blackwood) at 25, failing whom to his nephew Henry. In a codicil he specified that no part of his 'fortune' should be lent by his trustees on the security of West India property, nor to Sir John Blackwood, who was already indebted to him, observing that there should not be such matters between father (i.e. Sir John Blackwood as debtor) and son ([Capt.] Leeson Blackwood, as beneficiary of the trust).
