Biography

Rev Benjamin Pullan of Hockham, Norfolk representative of Edmund Fleming Akers, claimed for the compensation for Mt Pleasant and White Gate estate on St Kitts, the compensation for which went into Chancery in Pullan v Manning.

  1. The Rev. Benjamin William Pullan was made stipendiary curate of Hockham 22/10/1834 (the Rev Benjamin Pullan Headmaster of Free Grammar School, Holt Norfolk (now Gresham's) 1809-57; Vicar of Sheringham 1825-61 and Weybourne 1845-61, was a different man).

  2. The Rev. Benjamin William Pullan had married Catherine Akers (nee Dewhurst), in Harewood Yorkshire in 1833. Catherine was the widow of Edmund Fleming Akers (q.v.). Her family were from St Croix. In 1839, Benjamin William Pullan was said to be confined in some lunatic asylum, and his wife Catherine, residing at York, would not divulge his whereabouts: the couple together with Edward Dewhurst the elder residing at St Croix, and Edward Dewhurst the younger (who had been resident at Southampton but had recently gone to France 'to avoid executing the assignment and power of attorney)' were defendants in a suit brought by Ann Akers Price over the legacies of Henry Seaton and his wife Catherine.
