Biography

Awarded the compensation for the Body Ponds estate on Antigua. The estate had belonged in part to John Hyde (q.v.), who in 1813 bequeathed his interest to his daughter Mary Doyle, presumably John Hyde Doyle's mother. The will of John Hyde Doyle's father George Doyle, proved in 1830, makes no reference to Antigua or the Body Ponds estate but the estate was registered to George Doyle in 1821, 1825 and 1828.

  1. Marriage, in 1830, "At St James's Church, John Hyde Doyle, Esq., of Antigua, to Laura Sarah, second daughter of the late Vincent Kennet, Esq., of Portland Place."

  2. Living in Exeter, Devon, for the birth of his first two children, Laura Anna/Hannah, in 1832 and John Vincent Thomas in 1832. By 1839 they had moved to Withycombe in Devon for the births of further children - Charles (c. 1839), Charlotte Augusta (c. 1842), Clara Amelia (c. 1845) and Georgiana M. (c. 1848). Recorded at Withycombe Rawleigh in the censuses of 1841, 1851 and 1861 with his birth c. 1805 in Pimlico, London and his occupation as land owner, owner of houses, 'no occupation' etc. In 1861 he and his family were boarders in the household of William W. Michell in Bath. At some point before 1881 they moved to Hartfield Lodge, South Wimbledon, where he died in 1894.

The will of John Hyde Doyle of Hartfield Lodge, South Wimbledon, who died 26/02/1894 was proved in London, 19/03/1894 by Laura Hannah Doyle, Charlotte Augusta Doyle and Clara Amelia Eugenia Doyle, spinsters, effects £8491 5s 4d.
