Biography

Awarded the compensation for Jessop's estate on Nevis as owner, together with a smaller award on the same island. Son of John and Charlotte Ede of Ickenham, and brother of John Ede (q.v.).

  1. John Ede of Ickenham was the brother-in-law, executor and residuary legatee of Edward Jesup [sic], who died in 1770. Job Ede 'apparently the son of John Ede' inherited in turn. Job Ede's brother John (1778-1840) was almost certainly the John Ede who was a partner with Ebenezer Maitland and John Bond under the firm of Maitland, Ede and Bond until Maitland's retirement 30/04/1811, when Ede and Bond continued the business, until John Ede's retirement in 1833.

  2. Baptism of Job Ede, son of John and Charlotte Ede, St John the Baptist Hillingdon 15/01/1780.  

  3. Job Ede was apprenticed to Messrs Everth & Free of Scotts Yard Bush Lane London in June 1799; Job Ede, son of John Ede of Ickenham Middlesex, was admitted a freeman of the City of London (Goldsmiths) December 1801. Married Miss Williams, daughter of Lieut-Colonel W[illiams] of Falmouth 1813. His wife Catherine Maria was the grandniece of Mrs Bulkeley of Sidney Pl. In this city [Bath]. John Ede of Ickenham died in October 1811, leaving £45,000 personalty: his will refers to his plantations on Nevis.

  4. In 1841 Job Ede aged 55 Independent was living at Clayfield House, Millbrook Hampshire with Maria aged 45, Buckley (entered as female) aged 25, Eleanor 24, John 25, Henry 23 merchant and Edward 6 and George 6: only the latter two are shown as born in the county. Baptisms of John Bulkeley Ede 1817, Henry Ede 1818, Job Henry Ede 1818 and Frederic James Ede 1823 at Cowley Hillingdon, sons of Job and Catherine Maria Ede; baptisms of Edward Lee Ede and George Mathew Ede at Southampton 1834, sons of Job and Catherine Maria Ede.  

  5. Memorial in Millbrook Church to Job Ede of Clayfield lodge in this parish, who died in Nevis 01/07/1844 aged 63.

  6. John and Job Ede's sister Charlotte (1784-1875) formerly of Ickenham and then of Hillingdon died leaving £180,000.
