William Shiell

Son of Queely Shiell and brother of John Shiell (both q.v.). Planter and merchant in Montserrat. Held a variety of administrative positions including President of the Council in 1834, 1836 and 1839-1847. There were reports of financial irregularities and mismanagement and after a number of complaints he stepped down from the Council in 1850. His illegitimate son William (1823-1899, q.v.) emigrated to Australia in the 1850s.

1. William Shiell was married to Mary Semper, the daughter of Dudley Semper senior (q.v.).

2. William Sheill of Montserratt was listed as a subscriber to Charles Shephard's An Historical Account of the Island of Saint Vincent, published in 1832.
