Biography

London West India merchant, clearly intercepted the compensation for the Belmont estate on Tobago and was awardee in two further smaller awards there. Described in Tobago no. 79 as 'surviving partner of G.A. Buchanan as owner-in-fee' of four enslaved people in Scarborough.

  1. Born Gettinger Germany abt 1792 [1851 England census, when he was described as a West India merchant, aged 59 living at 70 Gloucester Terrace with his wife aged 44, identified as born in Tobago].

  2. John Henry Noding the awardee was aged 66 on his burial 21/09/1857 at All Souls Cemetery Kensal Green, when his abode was given as Brighton and 70 Gloucester Terrace Paddington. The will of John Henry Noding [formerly of the Island of Tobago in the West Indies but now of 70 Gloucester Terrace] of Paddington was proved 03/10/1857. He left in trust for his wife his leasehold interest in No. 51 [52?] Euston Square and the rest of his real estate including property in Scarborough Tobago to his son John Henry Noding. He was he said owed by the late firm of Noding Son and Leitch of Scarborough on his London account up to 01/06/1855 £3265 7s 5d, which he also left to his son. He pledged his personal estate in trust to fund an annuity of £700 p.a. to his wife.

  3. Insured by Sun Life [Guildhall, through TNA site] at 5 Vassall place North Brixton 20/11/1829; at 23 Euston Square 08/04/1834 ; at 3 Gordon St. Gordon Square in mid and late 1830s.

  4. The Henry Fernando Addams Goding, baptised 11/10/1854 at Holy Trinity Paddington, whose father was identified as John Henry Noding and mother as Louise Euseria of 70 Gloucester Terrace, was a grandson rather than a son.
