Biography

London barrister, devisee-in-trust and executor with Charles Payne (q.v.) of Edmund Fearon Bourke junior, the son of Edmund Fearon Bourke (q.v.), the deceased owners of Oakes.

  1. Baptised 22/01/1793 St George Bloomsbury, son of Henry and Martha Dampier.  John Lucius Dampier barrister-at-law appointed to Commission on New and Epping Forests 1849; died 24/05/1853, letters of administration granted 18/11/1870 to his widow, effects under £30,000.

  2. The will of Archdeacon John Law (written 1827 and proved that same year) identifies his daughter as Martha Dampier, son-in-law as Sir Henry Dampier and grandson as Joseph Lucius Dampier, making JLD the nephew of Stephana Biscoe and George Law and the first cousin of Rev. William Biscoe (all three q.v.). Sir Henry Dampier has an entry in the ODNB as a judge - not to be confused with Henry Dampier of Bristol (d. 1771, the slave-trader).
