Biography

  1. Co-executor (presumably in succession to his father) of John Alves (who died in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1825). Probably the nephew of John Alves, born 11/03/1809 and baptised 18/03/1809 in Linlithgow, Scotland, son of Robert Fotheringham (officer of excise) and his wife Mary Alves.

  2. Robert Fotheringham was on a jury list in Kingston in January 1840. Robert Fotheringham, merchant, son of Robert Fotheringham (officer of excise), married Eleanor Pearson Fotheringham, age 15 years, daughter of Alexander Fotheringham (of the Royal Lancashire militia) in St Catherine's, Liverpool, 13/04/1840. In 1841, Robert Fotheringham, age 30, of independent means, was living at Trinity Grange in North Leith with Eleanora age 16 and 2 female servants. "A lawful son born at No 13 Henderson Row, Saint Stephen's Parish on the first day of February Eighteen hudred and forty-seven, named John Hoyes. A lawful daughter born in same place and parish of the ninth day of November Eighteen hundred and forty eight, named Julia Hoyes. A lawful daughter born at 5 East Claremont Street, Saint Cuthberts Parish on the twenty eighth day of July Eighteen hundred and fifty, named Mary" [from the Edinburgh OPR, 1854]. In 1851, Robert Fotheringham, age 42, Accountant, born Linlithgow, was living at 6 East Claremont Street in Edinburgh with his wife Eleanor age 26, sons Robert (age 9), James (age 7), John H. (age 4) and daughters Mary (age 2) and Julia H. (age 3 months) and 4 female servants. The four youngest children had been born in Edinburgh. In 1861, Robert Fotheringham, age 52, Share Holder, was living at Devonside in Dollar, Clackmannanshire, Scotland, with his son John H. (age 14), Julia H. (age 12), Mary (age 10), Eleanor P. (age 8) and 3 female servants. The youngest child had been born in Dollar.

  3. The will with two codicils of Robert Fotheringham formerly of Devonside by Dollar in the County of Clackmannan in North Britian but late of 5 Tavistock-terrace Westbourne Park in the County of Middlesex Esquire deceased who died 21 August 1868 at 4 Malvern-road Kilburn Park in the County of Middlesex aforesaid was proved at the Principal Registry by the oaths of Eleanora Pearson Fotheringham of 5 Tavistock-terrace aforesaid Widow the Relict (during Widowhood) and Hugh Lewis Taylor of 3 Threadneedle-street in the City of London Manager of the Bank of Victoria two of the Executors. Effects under £16,000.
