Biography

Major (later Lt-Colonel) Robert Winchester of the 92nd Highlanders, army officer, who in right of his second wife Rachel Winchester née Walsh was awarded a half share of the compensation for enslaved people on Ann Grove and a 1/6th share for enslaved people on Harmony Hill, both in St George, Jamaica.    

  1. Marriage: "Lately... At Seymour Hill, Captain Robert Winchester, 92nd Highlanders, to Matilda, daughter of Robert Johnstone, Esq." Second marriage: at Kingston, Jamaica, "... on the 2d of January last, by the Rev. Mr Campbell, Major Winchester, 92d Highlanders, to Rachel, eldest daughter of the late D. Walsh, Esq. parish of St George." Death of Lt-Col Robert Winchester, Peninsular and Waterloo veteran, late of 92 Highlanders but retired on full pay, at his residence in Edinburgh c. July 1846.
