Biography

Awarded part of the compensation for the Observatory and Charlotteville estates on Tobago after participating in the counterclaim of James Gray of Kensington, Robert Gray of Dunfermline N[orth] B[ritain], Henry & Mary Douglas of same place, and Ann & Mary Gray, both of Kensington, spinsters, arrears of annuity under codicil of will of Charles Gray late of the Island of Tobago planter £3250, also accruing annuities from 12/9/1834. The group reached a settlement with the London merchant Patrick Maxwell Stewart on the awards.

  1. Will of Charles Gray, planter of Tobago, proved 14/8/1827. Will of James Gray Nursery and seedsman of Kensington Gore proved 23/03/1850; the James Gray of this will is linked to the award by his address at Kensington Gore (consistent with the will of Charles Gray) and the presence in the will of Ann and Mary Gray, two daughters by his first marriage, named as awardees in the compensation records).
