Biography

Awarded the compensation with Abel Rous Dottin, John Pollard Mayers and Robert Chaloner (each of whom q.v.) as trustees of the marriage settlement of Caroline Cumberbatch for the Cleland and Farm estates in Barbados.

  1. The marriage settlement of which Henry Walker Yeoman was co-trustee was between Caroline Chaloner and Abraham Parry Cumberbatch and was dated 10/04/1819; it secured Caroline Cumberbatch née Chaloner for life an annual sum of £356.

  2. Henry Walker Yeoman (1789-1875) was the son of Henry Walker Yeoman of Woodlands Whitby and his second wife Ann Hale, the daughter of General John Hale of Guisborough and Mary Chaloner (daughter of William Chaloner of Guisborough and aunt of Robert and Caroline Chaloner).  It appears almost certain that the awardee of slave compensation here is Henry Walker Yeoman (1789-1875) rather than his father, who appears to have died before 1801.

  3. Henry Walker Yeoman [Eldest son of Henry Walker, of Woodlands Whitby (by his second wife Anne, 2nd daughter of General Sir John Hale). Born July 13 1789. School Harrow].  Matriculated Trinity Cambridge Michaelmas 1807. BA 1813. MA 1817. Of Woodlands Whitby. JP and DL for the North Riding of Yorkshire. Married 5th February 1816 Lady Margaret Bruce Dundas, eldest daughter of the 1st Earl of Zetland. Died September 14 1875. Father of the next [=Rev. Henry Walker Yeoman], Constantine B (1840), George D (1854), Thomas L (1837), John (1844) and Robert C. (1856).

  4. Will of Henry Walker Yeoman late of Woodlands Whitby who died 14/09/1875 proved 30/11/1875, effects under £16000.

T71/899 Barbados claim nos. 4612 (Cleland) and 4948 (Farm).

  1. T71/899 Barbados No. 4948 carries the details of the counterclaim. In T71/899 Barbados No. 4612 Robert Chaloner is identified as late of Guisborough Yorkshire.

  2. The Hull Packet on 30/06/1801 carried a death notice for John Yeoman Esq., of the Woodlands near Whitby, the eldest son of 'the late Henry Walker Yeoman', in the 28th year of his age. John Yeoman appears to be a half-brother of Henry Walker Yeoman (1789-1875).
