  1. Will of Robert Hamilton [late of KingstonJamaica but now residing at] No. 14 Conduit Street Hanover Square, merchant, proved 31/08/1840. In the will he left his sister Helen, wife of John George Hamilton merchant Glasgow, his plate; he left his property in Jamaica and Maracaibo [now in Venezuela] in trust [his trustees included his brother George William Hamilton] with local trustees, and his property in Scotland with separate trustees, including his brother William Hamilton of Glasgow, to support the legacy of £2000 currency to his reputed son Robert, then a clerk in Frederic Harris & Co. of Macaraibo, and further capital sums of £2000 currency and £500 currency on which the income was to be paid to Elizabeth Hayden Burrell of Kingston and Helen Hamilton the daughter of Elizabeth Dillon of Kingston [and presumably of him, the testator] respectively, and of £6000 sterling on which the income was to be paid to his brother Archibald of Glasgow. His residuary legatees were his two other brothers and three sisters. In a codicil of 1840 he commented that his brother George William Hamilton had returned from Jamaica and was living with him in London, and made him executor and trustee with John Charles White in lieu of his original appointees in England.
