Biography

Possibly son of Wolfert Katz (q.v.), awarded the compensation for enslaved people on Philadelphia estate in British Guiana. If he was indeed the son of Wolfert Katz, he was apparently illegitimate, since Wolfert Katz's widow Susan Barclay Katz (q.v.) asserted Wolfert Katz had only one child born in lawful wedlock, her daughter Maria Barclay Katz.

  1. George Katz served as a steward at St Bart's Hospital dinner of Gentlemen educated at St Barts Hospital in 1833. Death of George Katz in Upper Stamford Street, Blackfriars, aged 37, late of Lime Street and formerly of Berbice, in 1841. Burial of George Katz of Upper Stamford Street aged 37 at St John the Evangelist Lambeth 22/01/1841.

  2. George Katz was also possibly the brother or half-brother of William Katz.  Near L'Orient in France, the lady of William Katz Esq. now of Fimingham in Kent, eldest son of the late Wolfert Katz of Berbice, of a son, 1837. William Katz served as steward of City of London Hospital for diseases of the chest in 1849, and in the same year a William Katz subscribed to a meeting of Spanish bondholders. In 1864 an auction of effects of William Katz from a St John's Wood address took place. William Katz also appears as Secretary of Royal Panopticon of Science and Art 14/01/1851.
