Biography

  1. Born at Tain, Ross-shire, Scotland, 22/11/1803, son of William McPherson, house carpenter and his wife Janet nee Fraser. Married Fanny Moore (1819-1906) in Whitby, Canada West, 01/11/1837. Died at Whitby, 28/09/1861. Buried at Union Cemetery, Oshawa, Ontario

  2. In Berbice by 1825. Arrived in Canada after Berbice in 1835. Settled at Whitby. Appointed postmaster of Whitby in 1837 and Town Councillor in 1858-1859.

  3. Living at Whitby in the census of 1851, Post Master, age 49, with his wife Fanny age 33 and children Andrew age 13, James age 11, Charlotte age 8, Susan age 6, William age 4 and Jessy age 2. In Whitby in 1861 age 57, with wife Fanny age 40 and children Andrew age 21, law student, James C. age 19, medical student, Susan age 15, William age 13, Jesse age 11, Laura age 9, Fanny age 7 and Colin age 3.
