Biography

Second son of Sir David Carnegie, 4th Bart., and Agnes Murray Elliot. Born John Carnegie but changed his surname to Rennie-Strachan-Carnegie when he inherited the estates of Thomas Renny Strachan (q.v.).

  1. Born 09/06/1802, second son of Sir David Carnegie, 4th Bart., and his wife Agnes Murray Elliot. Attended Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge. Married Elizabeth Susan Grey 07/09/1848. One son, Claud Cathcart Rennie-Strachan-Carnegie. Living at Seaton House, Angus, in the census of 1871. Died at Seaton House, St Vigeans, Forfar, Scotland, 22/02/1879.

  2. "JOHN RENNY-STRACHAN-CARNEGIE, Esq. of Tarrie, Angus, second son of the late Sir David Carnegie of Kinnaird, Bart., succeeded to the estates of Tarrie and Seaton, on the demise of the life-renter Mrs. Renny-Strachan, by testamentary deed of gift of Thomas Renny-Strachan, Esq., who died 20th October, 1823, without issue."
